Japan were an English new wave band formed in 1974 in Catford, South London by David Sylvian, Steve Jansen (drums) and Mick Karn, joined by Richard Barbieri (keyboards) and Rob Dean the following year.

ジャパン （Japan）は、 イギリス の ニュー・ウェイヴ ・ バンド 。 デヴィッド・シルヴィアン を中心に 1974年 結成。 1982年 解散。 歴史. デヴィッド・シルヴィアンとその弟 スティーヴ・ジャンセン 、デヴィッドの親友であった ミック・カーン を中心に結成。 カーンの兄の結婚式にバンドとして最初のお披露目をした。 当初はカーンをリード・ボーカルとして練習していたが、本番直前になって怖じ気づいたカーンが、シルヴィアンに無理矢理頼み込んでボーカルを代わってもらい、以降はシルヴィアンがリード・ボーカルとなった。 その後、高校の同級であった リチャード・バルビエリ を誘い、更にオーディションで ロブ・ディーン （ 英語版 ） を迎え入れ、デビュー当初のバンドの形態となった。
