It is approximately 240 kilometres (150 mi) long and varies in width from 20 to 58 kilometres.
Strangers should take a pilot. The Strait of Georgia extends some 115 miles NW from its S end, in the vicinity of Alden Bank, and is bordered on the W by Vancouver Island, B.C., and on the E by the mainland of Canada. General depths are great and in many places exceed 200 fathoms.
