This “other” Mary almost certainly refers to the witnesses of the crucifixion, including “Mary the mother of James and Joseph.” Matthew seems to amend Mark’s account by equating Mark’s “Mary the mother of Joses,” the second Mary in Mark’s sequence, with “Mary the mother of James and Joses,” Mark’s first Mary in the sequence.
