Reiss started his career in comedy, performing in art shows and composing. Reiss became co-president of the Harvard Lampoon, together with Jon Vitti. He Worked with Al Jean on The Simpsons, The Critic, along with other endeavors. The comedy magazine National Lampoon, picked Jean and Reiss as soon as they graduated in 1981. From the 1980sthey started working on different television projects. During this time Reiss and Jean worked as producers and writers on tv shows like the Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson (1984–1986), ALF, Sledge Hammer!
