Montréal is a slice of old Europe in a pie of contemporary design. A day’s wander might take in the photogenic 18th-century facades of Old Montréal before a cycling tour of the lovely Canal de Lachine, or a wander through the glittering shops and restaurants of downtown before ending at the inviting terraced cafes of Plateau Mont-Royal.
Montreal, c’est si bon! This French-speaking city is considered the cultural capital of Canada, and is a cosmopolitan celebration of Québécois style. A stroll around the cobblestone streets and grand buildings of Vieux-Montréal will give you a taste of European flavor. The Basilique Notre-Dame is a confection of stained glass, and the Plateau Mont-Royal district will delight with its quaint boutiques and cafés.
Montréal is a big, busy, exhilarating city, with so much to see and do. There’ll be plenty of long walks and bike rides, picnics at the park, street art hunts and time to discover the city’s many treasures. We invite you to explore the many “moments” you can experience in the city.

Montréal is located in the very south of the Canadian province of Québec, only 45 miles (72 kilometers) from the U.S. border. The city rests on an island between the St. Lawrence River and the Rivière des Prairies, with a hill at its center called Mount Royal.
A world leader in such industries as aeronautics, information technology and biotechnology, the city has also made significant innovations in medicine, multimedia, the arts and urban planning. Its avant-garde spirit has not gone unnoticed: in 2006, Montréal was named a UNESCO City of Design. © Eva Blue © Bateau-Mouche au Vieux-Port de Montréal
