This British prog-rock sensation combined jazz, electronic, and heavy metal genres to create epic songs, many breaking the generally accepted three-minute, radio-friendly track time limit.
Modern prog rock is a little different. I don't think the bands are as good because I prefer 70's prog rock, but there are still good modern prog rock bands, both in the metal genre and outside of it. You indicated in another comment that you aren't looking for prog metal suggestions, so I would echo several other posters here with Big Big Train.
