Looking back now, despite the original article's speculation I don't think the prisoner shown in the fresco is Roman, his dress and choice of helmet suggest somewhere from southern Italy or Apulia. I depicted the helmet here as a Montefortino but upon closer ispection it seems to look more like a Samno-Attic helmet.
