Timothy Franz Geithner (/ ˈ ɡ aɪ t n ər /; born August 18, 1961) is an American former central banker who served as the 75th United States Secretary of the Treasury under President Barack Obama from 2009 to 2013.
Timothy F. Geithner served as the 75th Secretary of the Treasury from January 26, 2009 to January 25, 2013. He took office in the midst of the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression and helped design and lead the successful strategy to avert global economic collapse and repair the damage to the U.S. economy and the financial system.

As president of the New York Fed, Geithner was directly involved in many pivotal policymaking decisions made during the financial crisis that started in 2007. During that time, he worked closely with the chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, Ben Bernanke, and the secretary of the Treasury, Henry Paulson.
