Weight is, in practice, understood as how difficult it is to send a character flying away. In this sense, it is generally considered an advantage for a character to be heavy, as less knockback makes it harder to KO a character. Additionally, many throws take longer to execute on heavier characters, giving the opponent being thrown more time to properly react to throws and to DI effectively. Because throwing heavier characters causes the throwing animation to continue longer once the target is...

These values use a different scale than the later games - heavier characters have lower numbers, representing a direct multiplier in the knockback formula. For comparison purposes, the equivalent value in the newer system is also listed.

    1. According to Super Smash Bros. Melee's Blue Smash Trophy of Mario, his mass is the standard upon which other Smash fighters are measured. While this is true in NTSC Melee (having a weight of 100), the PAL version dropped Mario's weight to 98, which was slightly below-average. This was carried over for future installments. 2. In each game, the enemy team all have the same weight as Mario, despite each being based on characters of different weights. 1. However, one exception applies to the...

The initial dash is the first part of a character's dash, during which a character can change directions with only 1 frame of lag. The concept of the initial dash is vital to many forms of ground movement, such as dash-dancing, fox-trotting, and pivoting. However, from Brawl onwards, the window for turning around during an initial dash does not last for the entire dash (six frames in Smash 4), making dash-dancing much harder, and fox-trotting is also not entirely dependent on the length of the initial dash. The best example of this is Sheik and Roy, who have nearly identical fox-trots despite Roy's initial dash being over twice as long as Sheik's (17 frames to her 8 frames). The turn-around animation plays when the character attempts to change directions after their initial dash. Unlike in an initial dash, attempting to turn around during a run can take as long as 51 frames (Marth in Melee), and before Smash 4, it can only be canceled with a jump (and therefore up smash and up speci...

    Initial dash

Because the initial dash animation translates into the running animation much later than in Brawl, it is a vital tool for movement in general and dash-dancingin particular.During the initial dash, the following actions can be used: 1. Altering the speed of the dash with the control stick, most notably backward to Moonwalk. 2. Turningaround by mashing the control stick in the opposite direction. Turning around takes one frame during which the character is standing and can do all ground attacks...

During the run — the later part of the dash — different options are available: 1. Pressing down to crouch. (Spending 1 frame in the RunBrakeanimation is necessary before the crouch can start.) 2. Turning around by mashing or pushing the control stick in the opposite direction. Turning around takes very long, up to 51 frames (Marth). During the turnaround animation, only a jump can interrupt it. 3. Pressing A or C-Stick forward/backward during the first 3 frames to do a small step forward smas...

Piranha Plant is a super heavyweight fighter with below-average mobility and effective anti-air tools. Compared to other heavyweights, it fits in the mold of an archetypal heavyweight: while its dashing speed is average and its gravity is very high, it has a slow walking speed, air acceleration and air speed, and a fast falling speed. One of Piranha Plant's most effective strengths are its special moves, which are well-varied and good for various situations. Its neutral special, Ptooie, is a u...

Piranha Plant has been buffed in updates so far by reducing the overall lag on some of its attacks, and having other attacks deal more damage to shields, allowing for better pressure. 3.0.0 1. Edge attack has more range. 2. Ptooie has a larger hitbox. 3. Piranha Plant's portrait briefly glints on its fang when Poison Breath is fully charged. 4. The screen KO visual glitch in Pilotwings has been fixed. 5. The void glitch has been removed. 3.1.0 1. Neutral attack 3 has more range (5.0u → 5.5u,...

    1. Fighter ability: If Piranha Plant is footstooled while crouching, it will automatically stretch upward and perform a biting attack, which has 4% base damage with vertical knockback.Note: All numbers are listed as base damage, without the 1v1 multiplier.

Despite having received noticeable attention due to its unexpected inclusion, Piranha Plant's representation has been very low at tournaments. This is due to its noticeable susceptibility to combos as well as sub-par mobility and approach options. In spite of its versatile projectile and recovery, many professionals consider Piranha Plant to be a low-tier character. Despite this, Piranha Plant has achieved several results from players such as Brood, Lucky, and Greward. Brood, in particular, h...

Due to its status as downloadable content, Piranha Plant does not have a legitimate role in World of Light. Instead, it is unlocked for use in the mode after freeing 10 fighters from Galeem's control. 1. So far, Piranha Plant is the only DLC character in Ultimate to not have an internal codename, instead being referred in the game files as its Japanese name \\"packun\\". Most likely, this is due to it already having been revealed over a month prior to the game release and therefore not needing to conceal its identity to eventual dataminers. 2. Piranha Plant is currently the only DLC character to be a first party character rather than a third party character. 3. Piranha Plant's official artwor...

Complete one of the following: 1. Play VS. matches, with Peach being the 12th character to be unlocked. 2. Clear Classic Mode with Fox or any character in his unlock tree, being the third character unlocked after Zero Suit Samus. 3. Have Peach join the player's party in World of Light. With the exception of the third method, Peach must then be defeated on Princess Peach's Castle.

Peach is a somewhat light character who is quite slow in terms of walking speed and dashing speed, and has an extremely slow falling speed and very low gravity, while her air speed is only average. While this is an unfavorable combination of traits, it is compensated by her unique floating ability and her very high air acceleration. Her float ability grants her the power to hover at any height she chooses, giving her a distinct advantage in combat. This, combined with a potent aerial moveset,...

Despite her high-tier placement in SSB4, Peach has been greatly buffed overall in the transition to Ultimate. As with most characters, Peach's mobility has been improved, aiding her approach and combo game. The new 0.85× damage multiplier for aerial attacks performed in a short hop affects Peach less than other returning veterans, as she can use her float to bypass the multiplier and still attack low to the ground with her aerials. This not only makes them more damaging, but combined with the...

Most likely as a result of her dominating performances in the competitive scene of Ultimate, Peach has been nerfed overall by patch updates. In patch 1.1.0, her dash attack's knockback scaling has been reduced, hindering its effectiveness as a fast KO option. As of patch 3.0.0, her Toad can no longer be used to stall indefinitely in the air, now only stalling at its first use, and her Vegetables deal less shield damage, hindering the projectiles' shield pressure capabilities.Patch 3.1.0 has a...

    1. Peach can float for 2.5 seconds.Note: All numbers are listed as base damage, without the 1v1 multiplier.

At the beginning of Ultimate's metagame, players immediately recognized the viability of Peach. They also noticed how she has incredibly improved from the last installment. Her combo game became possibly the best in the game, with her down tilt, aerials, Vegetable, forward tilt, and up tilt serving as devastating and powerful combo starters. Together with her echo fighter, Daisy, Peach has amassed results that are among the best, resulting in being a top-tier threat.Prior to patch 3.1.0., Pea...

The player must enter the pipe and free the spirit of Aisya to activate the blue ! Switch in order to progress to Peach.

Complete one of the following: 1. Play VS. matches, with Lucario being the 27th character to be unlocked. 2. Clear Classic Mode with Yoshi or anyone in his unlock tree, being the 1st character unlocked. 3. Have Lucario join the player's party in World of Light. With the exception of the third method, Lucario must then be defeated on Spear Pillar.

Lucario has received a mix of buffs and nerfs in the transition from Smash 4 to Ultimate, receiving noticeable buffs in game updates but being nerfed overall. The most notable nerf is to its Aura mechanic, as Lucario's Aura multiplier is worse than it was in Smash 4 despite 1v1 multipliers now giving a slight advantage. This, when combined with the universal weakening of the rage mechanic, makes Lucario noticeably less powerful at higher percentages, while its reduced weight makes it even eas...

Lucario has been noticeably buffed overall so far. 2.0.0 1. Lucario can grab the edge earlier after using forward air (64 frames → 52). 2. Aura Sphere has less hitlag during the charge, allowing characters to escape and shield drop much easier. 3. Aura Storm's Final Smash Meter has a higher knockback multiplier (0.7× → 0.77×). 3.0.0 1. Aura Sphere deals less shield damage. 3.1.0 1. All hits of neutral attack have less ending lag (FAF 32, 35, 39 → 27, 27, 36). 2. Dash attack's sweetspot has mo...

    1. Lucario's moveset is affected by Aura. Each move lists the percentages according to Lucario's damage: 0%/65%/190%. 1. Lucario's Aura effects also change in regard to placing. When at a -1 placing, Lucario's Aura gains a multiplier of ×1.125. 1. Lucario is able to crawl, wall cling, and wall jump.Note: All numbers are listed as base damage, without the 1v1 multiplier.

When Ultimate got released, many players noticed that Lucario had a lot of potential and that it was better than its already strong appearance in Smash 4. This was due to many of its options either becoming faster and more reliable along with the character greatly befitting from the game's mechanics. On top of this, Donkey Kong who was previously considered to be a hard counter to Lucario in Smash 4 is now much easier which seemed to improve its matchup spread overall. Because of this, many p...
