On April 1, 2021, Sony integrated its electronics businesses including Sony Mobile into one company called Sony Corporation. Sony Mobile Communications Inc. was a multinational telecommunications company founded on October 1, 2001, as a joint venture between Sony Corporation and Ericsson.
Sony Mobile focuses exclusively on the smartphone market under the Xperia brand. In 2013, Sony contributed to around two percent of the mobile phone market with 37 million mobile phones sold. Sony Mobile's sales reached a peak in 2014 with 40 million handsets, the volume has since decreased.
