Thomas Dubois Hormel (1930-2019) was a composer, visual artist, environmental activist, and philanthropist. Born in Austin, Minnesota in 1930, Tom lived in California, Hawaii, Idaho, and Florida. A graduate of Occidental College with a BA in Sociology, he studied at Loyola Law School and the University of Southern California School of Architecture.

Thomas (Tom) D. Hormel is the grandson of George A. Hormel, founder of Hormel Foods. Hormel attended Austin High and the Shattuck Military School in Minnesota. He studied Law at Loyola Law School and Architecture at University of Southern California. Hormel graduated from Occidental College in Los Angeles with a BA in Sociology.
As a visual artist, Hormel has worked in both oil and acrylics, ceramics, photography, digital art, and multi-media. In 1991 Hormel celebrated 100 years in business. The following year, the three grandsons of George Hormel--George Hormel II, James Hormel, and Thomas Hormel--who held control of the company through the Hormel Foundation, filed suit to attempt to force the foundation to diversify its holdings, which consisted almost entirely of Hormel stock.

Graduating from Occidental College with a BA in Sociology, Tom also studied a year of Law at Loyola Law School, and a year of Architecture at USC. Tom speaks fluent French and Spanish with some swear words in three other languages.
