Van Vleck Bunkhouse. Van Vleck Bunkhouse overlooks a 40-acre meadow and the Tells Peak portion of the Crystal Range of the Sierra Nevada, providing a rustic camping experience year-round. Built in 1957, the bunkhouse is the last remaining building at the Van Vleck Ranch site. The area was operated as a cattle ranch from the 1860s to the 1960s.

Travel 8 miles east of Placerville on Highway 50 and take exit 54 (cedar Grove). Turn right on Eight Mile Rd., then another immediate right to the Ranger Station.

Built in 1957, Van Vleck Bunkhouse sits nestled in a red fir forest on the edge of a meadow near the Tells Creek Trailhead into the Desola on Wilderness and offers a spectacular view of Tells Peak. The bunkhouse is the last remnant of the Van Vleck Ranch site, which was operated as a ca le ranch from the 1860's to the 1960's.
