  1. Walt Disney built a 1/8th scale live-steam railroad at his residence in Holmby Hills, CA, in 1950. He called it his "happy place" and operated it until 1953 when he shifted his energies into creating Disneyland. Today, you can visit Walt’s Barn, a quaint red barn that he called his workshop, where you can see trains of all scales, many of which were donated by his animators and friends.

  2. The Barn is small, but full of many interesting items to learn about, and lots of wonderful stories. The Barn is open on the 3rd Sunday of each month from 11 am to 3 pm.   3. The barn is not very big, but it has a ton of memorabilia as well as a lot of people who love Walt Disney and are happy to share their knowledge of him. Here are some pictures from inside the barn. I especially liked this old picture of a young Walt working on the Lilly Belle that eventually became one of the main trains at Disneyland .
