October 2009 was cold and wet for the High Plains Region. Temperatures were below normal for the entire Region as temperature departures of 6 degrees F to 10 degrees F (3.3 degrees C to 5.5 degrees C) below normal were common. The majority of the Region was wet as precipitation totals greater then 200 percent of normal were observed in every state.
In October, 42 of the lower 48 states averaged temperatures that were below-normal. Florida was the only state with an above-normal temperature for October. The following month was something of a mirror image, becoming the 3 rd warmest November on record, 4 degrees F (2.2 degrees C) above the LTM.
