Western Upper Michigan Snow Depth. This map is created using observed snow depth from National Weather Service trained observers, satellite information and aerial snow surveys. This map is a product of the National Operational Hydrologic Remote Sensing office located in Chanhassen, MN.
This map displays current snow depth according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Snow Analyses (NSA). The NSA are based on modeled snow pack characteristics that are updated daily using all operationally available ground, airborne, and satellite observations.
SNOTEL (SNOw TELemetry): An automated near real-time data collection network that provides mid to high elevation hydroclimatic data from mountainous regions of the western United States. A standard SNOTEL station provides snow water equivalent, snow depth, precipitation, and temperature data.
