An international auxiliary language (sometimes acronymized as IAL or contracted as auxlang) is a language meant for communication between people from all different nations, who do not share a common first language. An auxiliary language is primarily a foreign language and often a constructed language.
Finding the most common word between languages is the same method just with extra steps. It still prioritises languages with a large number of speakers but also ignores any language that hasn't historically been in contact with others/ doesnt trade words often IE Mandarin, Japanese, Korean, and many smaller languages.

Designing an international auxiliary language is quite a different craft than designing an artlang. In this essay, I summarize the design goals for an IAL, and examine which choices with regard to origin of words ( a priori or a posteriori ), phonology, morphology and syntax best fulfill those.
