    The Avengers are a team of super heroes in the Marvel Universe. Despite starting in its own corner of Earth-616, it expanded over time and has, since its creation, featured a large number of characters in a variety of combinations, with a vast majority of heroes in the Marvel Universe being an Avenger at some point in their history.

    This list also includes the numerous spin-off Avengers teams that were at some point officially considered part of the group. These teams are, in alphabetical order:

    •Avengers Artificial Intelligence Squad

    •Avengers Academy

    •Avengers Idea Mechanics

    All of these members helped form the team in The Avengers vol. 1 #1 (September 1963), responding to an attack by Loki.

    These members all joined the team after its founding and the initial departure of the Hulk.

    These members joined the team prior to the Korvac Saga, but came after most of the original members.

    These members joined the team either during the Korvac Saga or immediately after it. This includes the Guardians of the Galaxy from Earth-691, who were granted honorary status during the saga.

    During the mid-80s, the first Avengers spin-off team, the West Coast Avengers, was founded by Vision. This section includes initial members of the team and some later members.

    A group of second-string heroes who independently formed their own branch of Avengers in West Coast Avengers (Vol. 2) #46 (July 1989). While not officially Avengers when they first started, they later gained this status when Hawkeye and Mockingbird joined the team, later reaffirmed upon their inclusion in the Fifty States Initiative.

    These members joined the team during the 1990s prior to the events of Heroes Reborn.
