     There are a few ways you can run NodeJS on Windows for production workloads.

     It's important to first understand that Windows has built-in (kernel mode!) support for HTTP servers called HTTP.sys which IIS and other web-servers use to serve HTTP traffic rather than simply opening a listening socket on port 80 (this is how Microsoft's IIS beat the pants off Apache in the web-server benchmarks back in the late 1990s).

     Your options are:

     • Expose NodeJS directly to port 80/443 This is the simplest approach though with many drawbacks. But provided you don't need to run different multiple applications and non-NodeJS code on the server then this is a valid option. Just remember to disable HTTP.sys first.
     • Run NodeJS behind HTTP.sys The author of the iisnode library also wrote another lib called httpsys for NodeJS (as running behind IIS uses many of the same techniques as running behind HTTP.sys): https://github.com/tjanczuk/httpsys - unfortunately it's out of date, but there really isn't much code to it so you can probably hack it yourself to work with the latest versions of Node. This is one of the points of open-source! ("Don't complain, fix it!")

     Run NodeJS behind IIS with Microsoft's fork of iisnode:

     I am no expert in Windows kernel but understands a bit on Linux containers, so I am answering after reading windows documentation

     Docker is a tool to create Linux containers which was possible due to these two features: cgroups (2.6.24) and Namespaces (2.4.19) added in Linux kernel added in the specified versions.

     In another words, docker can be run only on Linux host. To run on any other host (Mac, Windows), docker would need to create a virtual machine which will run Linux kernel and then run docker on top of it.      However Windows 10 adds support for kernel namespaces and supports following type of containers:-

     • Windows Server Containers: Similar to Linux containers as they use namespaces to isolate the software environment. The containers shares kernel with host.
     • Hyper-V Isolation: Seems like, for "better security", Windows is providing with a virtual machine for each container. This design is similar to what docker already had on the previous versions of Windows.

     So to answer your question,

     What is included in the Windows 10 Container feature?

     Windows have added namespaces, and supports Linux like containers natively, without the need of an hypervisor, i.e. containers sharing kernel with hosts

     Why do I need Docker for Windows on top of that?

     Creating a container on own is a tough task. you have to correctly isolate namespaces and take care of resource leaking. Docker makes it easier for you. However looks like Docker in Windows yet doesn't support containers directly on host. However it can run Windows kernel in a virtual machine and create windows containers on top, which is a new feature.

     Again, I have limited knowledge on Windows containers, hope you will have enough pointers to carry on!

     Are you are trying to run Windows containers on Windows host (and not Linux containers on Windows host via Moby VM)? In this case you can't share named pipe (npipe:////./pipe/docker_engine) as docker volume.

     It seems the only option is to use TCP sockets. Here is how I've done it In PowerShell:

     Potentially you can get away with simpler approach instead of finding out gateway IP above, just use COMPUTERNAME. This will mean a bit more network traffic when starting nested container as it will need to access DNS to resolve it to the IP address which would normally be main IP address of the host, not the docker nat gateway IP. Also it will be less secure as Docker daemon will be listening on the external IP of the host, so will be accessible from outside.

     Then you can start a container and just pass env var DOCKER_HOST:

     docker run -it -e DOCKER_HOST ... -

     The number you refer to is "Memory used by processes, drivers and the operating system" [source].

     This is an easy but somewhat vague description. A somewhat similar description would be the total amount of memory that is not free, or part of the buffer cache, or part of the standby list.

     It is not the maximum memory used at some time ("peak"), it's a coincidence that you have roughly the same number there. It is the presently used amount (used by "everyone", that is all programs and the OS).

     The peak working set is a different thing. The working set is the amount of memory in a process (or, if you consider several processes, in all these processes) that is currently in physical memory. The peak working set is, consequently, the maximum value so far seen. A process may allocate more memory than it actually ever commits ("uses"), and most processes will commit more memory than they have in their working set at one time. This is perfectly normal. Pages are moved in and out of working sets (and into the standby list) to assure that the computer, which has only a finite amount of memory, always has enough reserves to satisfy any memory needs.
