     Selenium Grid

     Selenium Grid allows the execution of WebDriver scripts on remote machines (virtual or real) by routing commands sent by the client to remote browser instances. It aims to provide an easy way to run tests in parallel on multiple machines.

     In simple words, Selenium Grid allows us to run tests in parallel on multiple machines, and to manage different browser versions and browser configurations centrally (instead of in each individual test).

     Selenium Grid Hub

     The Selenium Grid Hub is the central point where all your tests are sent. Each Selenium Grid consists of exactly one hub. The hub needs to be reachable from the respective clients (i.e. CI server, Developer machine etc.) The hub will connect one or more nodes that tests will be delegated to.

     These connections are TCP/IP connections. To not have to overhead of creating every time a new connection there are connection pools that expand and shrink dynamically. You can use one connection for multiple queries. I think you mean that you release it to the pool. If you do that you might get back the same connection from the pool. In this case it just doesn't matter if you do one or multiple queries

     The cost of a connection is to connect which takes some time. ANd the database prepares some stuff like sessions, etc for every connection. That would have to be done every time. Connections become stale through multiple reasons. The most prominent is a firewall in between. Connection problems could lead to connection resetting or there could be simple timeouts

     Using socket.on method, allows you to manage how a custom or built-in received message event will be handled. If you're sending different kind of messages through the server, lets say, requestsStats and requestUsersList message types, you'll be emitting messages like

     you'll need to process them on the server (or clients) using:

     socket.on('requestStats', function(message){ // process message content });-

     and

     socket.on('requestUsersList', function(message) { // process message content });-

     Basically, you can define custom events/messages to be sent through web sockets.

     The threads are used to feed a remote JMX client (in your case Java VisualVM) with data from your JVM.

     Once you disconnect the threads should not allocate so much data anymore.

     To verify this you can go to the Threads tab and look at the thread dump of a RMI TCP Connection thread. You should see that the RMI operations trigger JMX beans.
