However, Revelstoke’s reputation as a ski destination preceded Revelstoke Mountain Resort; it stems from over 100 years of ski history. The deep roots of skiing in Revelstoke can be credited to a handful of early adopters and enthusiasts.

Mount Revelstoke was established as a National Park in 1914, after considerable advocacy by local residents, in recognition of its unspoiled mountain scenery, its sub-alpine wildflower meadows, and its potential for recreational use. The Meadows in the Sky Parkway was built between 1912 and 1927.

Revelstoke was settled in 1885 during construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR.) The original name of the settlement was Farwell, after surveyor A.S. Farwell, who applied for a Provincial grant for land.
