From the start of 1956, UT (Greenwich mean solar time calculated from the observed sidereal times of transit of a number of stars across the instantaneous meridian of the observer) became known as UT0 and UT1 and UT2 were introduced, UT1 being UT0 corrected for polar motion; and UT2 being UT1 corrected for extrapolated seasonal variation.
