Mar 13, 2023 · Harald Bluetooth Gormsson, also known as Harald Blåtand Gormsen, reigned over his Danish kingdom from 958 to 986. Bluetooth is credited with bringing Denmark together with neighboring territories in Sweden and Norway. He is also famed for being the first king of Denmark to convert to Christianity.
Succeeding his father Gorm the Old around 958, Harald Bluetooth, one of the Danish kings during the Viking Age, made significant strides in the Christianization of Denmark. He shifted his headquarters to Roskilde, where he oversaw the construction of fortresses, setting the stage for his rule.
Perhaps Harald became sole king around 968-70 AD. The Roskilde Chronicle reports that Harald was co-king with his father for a long period: "This Gorm was Harald's father; Harald ruled the kingdom during his father's lifetime for 15 years, and after his father's death he ruled for 50 years".
