For the last five decades, Whistler Blackcomb has left its mark on those who are drawn to the mountains. What started as a single Olympic dream in 1966 has evolved into the largest ski resort in North America, with a slew of accomplishments to back it up.
On April 20, 1999, Whistler Blackcomb became the first North American ski resort to top 2 million skier visits in one season. 1998 saw the replacement of the Peak Chair with a high-speed quad. The original Peak Chair was renamed Franz's Chair and moved parallel to Big Red with a return station approximately halfway up Big Red's lift line.

May 12, 2023 · 00:00:34. Since Whistler Mountain opened in the mid-'60s, the amount of accessible terrain, mountain restaurants and the number of runs has grown substantially. Blackcomb Mountain opened to the public in 1980, and for two decades afterwards, the duelling resorts competed to be the best in the province.
