John William Van Druten (1 June 1901 – 19 December 1957) was an English playwright and theatre director. [1] He began his career in London, and later moved to America, becoming a U.S. citizen. He was known for his plays of witty and urbane observations of contemporary life and society.
Van Druten himself foresaw this fall from grace: in his Playwright At Work (1955), he acknowledges that “the theatre is ephemeral, and plays are a perishable commodity”.
John Van Druten was a British-American writer and producer of plays and films. He wrote Gaslight, Cabaret and Raffles, among others, and became a US citizen in 1944.
