May 26, 2024 · Established in the 17th century, Hingham is renowned for its fascinating historical sites that offer visitors a glimpse into its rich past. From colonial-era houses to iconic landmarks, the town showcases the legacy of its early settlers and their contributions to American history.
- World’s End. A place of immense natural beauty, World’s End is a craggy peninsula on a chain of glacial drumlins between the Weir River and Hingham Harbor.
- Downtown Hingham. Encompassing the earliest streets laid out in the town and reaching down to the harbor, Hingham’s upmarket center reaches back almost 400 years.
- Bathing Beach. Lining the west side of Hingham Harbor is a scenic public park, composed of a beach, a large grassy space, a bandstand and seasonal amenities like concessions and restrooms.
- Loring Hall. In 1936, a Greek Revival meeting hall on Main Street in Hingham’s historic center was converted into a single-screen movie house, and has remained one to this day.
Hingham today looks to the future with an eye to preserving its rich history, so evident in the remarkable architecture preserved in both public and private buildings, and in the protection of its open space.
About Hingham. The Town of Hingham covers an area of 22.5 square miles and is approximately 15 miles south of Boston. The town's history is reflected in its many immaculately kept antique houses, including the "Old Ordinary" on Lincoln Street, which now houses the Hingham Historical Society Museum.
