- Shut off power and unplug washer. Disconnect the washer from power by unplugging the power cord from the wall outlet to ensure safety during repair work.
- Open lid and remove old screws. If the lid is closed, open it fully. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove any visible screws around the edge of the washing machine lid.
- Lift off old lid. Grasp the edge of the lid firmly and lift straight up to remove. You may need to wiggle it slightly to detach any seals or gaskets holding it in place.
- Inspect door seal. Check that the door seal gasket around the opening is in good condition without tears or cracks. Replace if worn.
