I feel like what's catching you up is the idea that Beast is for Mutant supremacy. But I feel like the story specifically in the beginning goes out of it's way to let us know that all of the people in Krakoa at it's founding believe in Krakoa as an idea. They've all been convinced by Xavier and Magneto in someway that this is truly the last option.
