During the 10th to 13th centuries, the southern part of the island was called MAIT, a name that is still used by the Mangyan tribe in the South of Mindoro. The Mait Mangyans were trading with the Chinese, and exchanged their local products of bee-wax, cotton, root crops and medicinal plants for beads, gongs, plates and jars.
