Lárissa, town and dímos (municipality), Thessaly (Modern Greek: Thessalía) periféreia (region), central Greece. It is located on the Pineiós (also called Peneus) Potamós (river). Since the 9th century it has been the seat of a bishop. In antiquity Lárissa was the seat of the Aleuad clan, founded by Aleuas, who claimed descent from Heracles.
