Oct 24, 2011 · Ashiya-machi, located in northern Fukuoka Prefecture at the mouth of the Onga River, was once a bustling port town from which the coal of the Chikuho region was shipped to other areas of Japan. As the railroad replaced ships, its identity as a port town began to fade.
