Niederösterreich ist ein Bundesland der Republik Österreich.Es ist das flächengrößte und zweitbevölkerungsreichste Bundesland. Erstmals erwähnt als Ostarrîchi im Jahr 996 n. Chr., erlangte es als Erzherzogtum Österreich unter der Enns seine größte Ausdehnung und wurde 1920, nunmehr ohne die Stadt Wien, als eigenes Bundesland konstituiert. 1986 wurde St. Pölten Landeshauptstadt.
