    • Soak up the views at Minaun Heights. A spin up to Minaun Heights is one of the more overlooked things to do in Achill Island. It sits more or less in the centre of Achill and there’s a narrow road that leads right up to a little parking area.
    • Spin along the bendy road to Keem. The road that winds around Achill Island climaxes when you drive up over the hill that leads to Keem Bay. It’s hard to put into words how magnificent the views from here are.
    • Then saunter along the sand. You’ll find a parking area just in front of Keem Bay. As it’s one of the more popular Achill Island beaches, it packs out fast on good days, but you’ll often find it empty during the off-season.
    • Or hike up to the Croaghaun Cliffs. Standing 688 metres (2,257 feet) above the wild Atlantic waves, Croaghaun Mountain boasts the highest sea cliffs in Ireland, which incidentally are also the third highest sea cliffs in Europe.
    • Keem Bay. Keem Bay absolutely blew us away. It’s the last place on Achill you can reach by road. It’s tucked into a natural amphitheatre of steep mountains and moorland, in scenery reminiscent of the Faroe Islands.
    • Slievemore Deserted Village, A chill Island. One of the best-known things to do in Achill is visiting the Deserted Village on the lower slopes of Slievemore mountain.
    • Dugort B each. Also known as Doogort, this is another beautiful Achill beach, on the north coast of the island. It’s in the shadow of Slievemore mountain.
    • Heinrich Boll Memorial W eekend. The German author Heinrich Böll was one of the first to confront the memories of Nazism and the Holocaust in the aftermath of World War II.
