1967–1977. Our beginning was marked by star-studded productions at the Ahmanson, thought-provoking and controversial work at the Taper, and World premieres by writers including Neil Simon and Derek Walcott. Tonight marks the realization of what seemed an impossible dream.
It was named for S. Mark Taper, a prominent real estate developer, banker and philanthropist. Opened as well in 1967, the Ahmanson Theatre features a state-of-the-art configuration with variable seating capacity that can accommodate a diverse selection of performances.
After 628 days without live performances, we are turning the lights back on. The cast, crew, and staff here have been working hard over the last several months to bring the wonder of live theatre back. It’s finally time to raise the curtains across Los Angeles at the Ahmanson Theatre, the Mark Taper Forum, and Kirk Douglas Theatre.
