ADMIN MOD. Ben Affleck's The Town (2010) is one of the best action dramas of the last 10 years. Argo won him the best director trophy, but in my opinion, The Town is better directed, even though I love Argo. The Town had me gripped from the 1st minute, which involved a thrilling opening, and kept me on the edge till the end.
The film opens with two quotes on screen. Paraphrasing, one says that robbing banks (and ultimately crime in general) is something that was passed down by families in Southie. The other is along the lines of growing up in Southie being the best and worst thing that ever happens to you.

The movie posters make it look like a generic crime thriller but I can assure you it is anything but. The acting, particularly from Renner and Affleck, is sublime, the script packs a surprisingly big emotional punch and the direction is artful without becoming corny.
