- “Born to Run” “Born to Run” was the anthem of a generation left behind in the late 1970s: “In the day we sweat it out in the streets of a runaway American dream / At night we ride through mansions of glory in suicide machines / Sprung from cages out on highway 9 / Chrome wheeled, fuel injected, and steppin’ out over the line / Baby this town rips the bones from your back / It’s a death trap, it’s a suicide rap / We gotta get out while we’re young.”
- “Racing in the Street” This ballad is regarded as one of Springsteen’s absolute best, capturing almost all the elements that make a great Springsteen song: A dead-end job, an American-made car and dreams of something better someday.
- “Born in the USA” There’s a profound irony to “Born in the USA” being used at political rallies, especially by candidates with war hawk records…but it hasn’t stopped them.
- “Blinded by the Light” Believe it or not, “Blinded by the Light” was Springsteen’s only song to ever go to No. 1—and only when Manfred Mann sang it. The song inspired a movie of the same name, released in 2019.
