Carlos Diegues, also known as Cacá Diegues (born May 19, 1940), is a Brazilian film director. He was born in Maceió , Alagoas , and is best known as a member of the Cinema Novo movement. He is popularly known for his unconventional, yet intriguing film techniques [ according to whom? ] among other film producers of the Cinema Novo movement.

Carlos José 'Cacá' Fontes Diegues is an award-winning Brazilian filmmaker and one of the founders of the Brazilian New Cinema (Cinema Novo) movement.
Brazilian filmmaker Carlos Diegues was one the key figures of the Cinema Nôvo movement. His films, like others of the genre, offered criticism of Brazilian social mores and structure and centered upon social injustice. The idealistic Diegues began his interest in social reform while studying law at Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro.
