  1. 9 hours ago · In spring 1296, as the Lieutenant of Aquitaine, Edmund Crouchback was in command at a siege of Bordeaux when he fell ill. Aged fifty-one, he died on 5th June 1296. He had promised that he would not be buried until all his debts were paid, so it was not until 24th March 1297 that he was finally laid to rest in Westminster Abbey.
