James Gilbert Glimm (born March 24, 1934) is an American mathematician, former president of the American Mathematical Society, and distinguished professor at Stony Brook University. He has made many contributions in the areas of pure and applied mathematics .
Biography. James Glimm was the son of William Frederick Glimm Jr (1893-1983) and Barbara Gilbert Hooper (1904-1992). William Glimm, born 7 May 1893 in Jersey City, New Jersey, USA, was a superintendent in a paper mill. He married Barbara, born 10 May 1904 in Manhattan, New York, in St Johns Church, Jersey City, New York, on 23 April 1927.
