  2. Mar 20, 2013 · The special effects and attention to detail in "Olympus Has Fallen" are superb. It truly looks like the destruction depicted onscreen has actually occurred. The action-thriller Olympus Has Fallen is a far better Die Hard movie than the one released last month. That's not to say this film isn't without its ludicrous moments and formulaic faults, but Olympus Has Fallen is still a solid, old school action-thriller featuring a fine cast and a sincere execution by director Antoine Fuqua that lifts it above other fare of this sort.

Gerard Butler stars as Secret Service agent Mike Banning, a tough but reliable bloke who serves on the personal protection detail of President Ben Asher (Aaron Eckhart). He's not just the President's bodyguard, but also a close friend to both him and his young son Connor (Finley Jacobsen).

But after a tragedy during the line of duty, Banning finds himself transferred to Treasury (the Secret Service's other duty being counterfeiting investigations). Banning gets a chance to redeem himself when a surprise attack on the White House cripples the U.S. government and leads to the capture of President Asher and his key staff during the visit by the leader of South Korea.

Gerard Butler can still make good movies, like the surprisingly fun action-thriller Olympus Has Fallen that's a far better Die Hard movie than the one released last month.

  8. Mar 21, 2013 · Entertainment Weekly. Mar 20, 2013. The countdown-to-Armageddon structure generates almost no tension, but Olympus Has Fallen does have lots of squalidly bloody hand-to-hand action, all of which is so pulpy and standardthat the film actually makes you grateful for the presence of Gerard Butler, gnashing his teeth in the Bruce Willis role.
