When a well-known play is produced in a small Polish town, Krzysztof (Tadeusz Huk), the leading man of the local acting troupe, sees a chance to give what could be his finest performance. Soon Krzysztof becomes overbearing with his many ideas about his role, while his wife, Anka (Halina Łabonarska), struggles with her waning theater career.
