She was the daughter of Iltutmish, the third ruler of the Delhi Sultanate, and the granddaughter of Qutb ud din Aibak, the founder of the Mamluk dynasty. She proved to be an efficient and effective ruler, who established law and order, made reforms, and encouraged trade. She was assassinated by her half-brothers after a brief reign of four years.
