Rodeo Beach is known for its dark, pebbly sand, its uses for surfing and sunbathing, and its locale as a place for viewing, but not collecting, semi-precious stones. This beach is unique among California beaches in that it is largely made up of coarse, pebbly chert grains, both red and green in color.
Jun 2022. Really cool beach cove on north side of bridge in Marin County. Used to have Sunday public transit coming here, but not at this time. Still worth figuring out how to get here. Relax, beachcomb, surf, swim, and hike around lagoon and coastal bluffs.

At the western end of Bunker Rd sits Rodeo Beach, partly protected from wind by high cliffs. It's known to locals as 'Fort Cronkhite' for the old military post that sits behind it. Kids will love the colorful pebbles on the beach (look for bright orange carnelians).

Down the hill from Battery Townsley and nestled between Fort Cronkhite, and the Lagoon, Rodeo Beach is a great place to start a day's visit in the Headlands.
