Desni was born in Berlin as Tamara Brodsky, [1] the daughter of actress Xenia Desni. Her mother was born in Kiev, Russian Empire and emigrated to Germany some time before Desni's birth.

She starred in Falling For You (1933) and Jack Ahoy (1934) opposite Jack Hulbert, and others including How’s Chances? (1934), Blue Smoke (1935), The Squeaker (1937) and Fire Over England (1937).
