The Dresden Files fails in the same way most new series on SciFi fail: it is basically unwatchable. Forget the fact that besides the excellent lead actor, the rest of the cast is particularly bland and poorly chosen (make another exception for Terence Mann who is only hampered by bad directing, not by lack of talent).
