Aug 2, 2023 · “The Essential Church” mostly does the subject justice, capturing both church culture and the government’s willingness to snuff it out. The film’s length and willingness to alienate secular viewers are troublesome, but the heart of the matter is never discounted.
Bottom Line: The Essential Church is a frustrating documentary. It incites the passions and is rooted in a valid critique of pandemic lockdown policies but a close reading of the film’s arguments reveals its many half-truths and false analogies.

Though somewhat lengthy (the run-time comes in at just over 2 hours), it provides a crucial, indispensable argument for an immensely important time: the church, regardless of the dictates of tyrants is essential.
