A pair of NYPD detectives in the Narcotics Bureau stumble onto a heroin smuggling ring based in Marseilles, but stopping them and capturing their leaders proves an elusive goal.
The film revolves around two New York city detectives and a couple of French drug dealers (hence the "French Connection"). The main detective, played by Gene Hackman, wants to restore his reputation by cracking the "big case" and doing whatever necessary to get to the bottom of it.
