Popular reviews. Richard Cross ★★★. The film that cemented a young Erich von Stoheim's screen status as "the man you love to hate" is an occasionally ponderous propaganda piece. Von Stroheim's part is quite small, which is a shame because he lights up the screen amongst an otherwise forgettable cast. Good battle scenes. PUNQ ★★★.
