The husband and his father escape by being in the forest. The young man decides to join the resistance but at the first meeting Gestapo kills his go-between and chase him.
A film by Andrzej Żuławski about a man who survives the Nazi occupation of Poland and joins the resistance, only to face a surreal world of doubles, mirrors and parasites. The film is based on a true story of a Nazi vaccine laboratory where Jews and resistance fighters were used as feeders for typhus-infected lice.
The film begins in a remote countryside house in Nazi-occupied Poland, where Michal (Leszek Teleszynski) stays with his wife and children, until the Nazis come along a murder everyone while Michal lies hidden in the woods. He journeys back to Lwow where he joins the resistance, almost instantly being tracked down and almost murdered.
