After arriving to his new post in a hospital pathology department, Dr. David Coleman (Ben Gazzara) clashes with the department head, Dr. Pearson (Fredric March). Pearson, who views Coleman as competition, thinks the young doctor is too brash. The older doctor does not agree with Coleman's suggestion to test a pregnant mother for a blood disease.
