23 juin : début d’une campagne contre le médecin noir John Farrell Easmon (en), nommé médecin-chef en Gold Coast. Il est finalement suspendu de sa charge en 1897. Une commission des réserves indigènes est chargée de répartir la terre en Rhodésie du Sud. Des réserves sont créées pour la population noire.
